Electric Toothbrushes for Whiter Teeth

Recent studies show that more and more people all over the world are choosing electric toothbrush over manual. This is not a surprise because by using electric toothbrush you can clean your teeth better, reach difficult spots and as a result - have lower chance for cavities.

Before you choose an electric toothbrush you should now what advantages and disadvantages they have:

+ easy to use - you bruh your teeth just like with a standard toothbrush. And for some people it's even easier using electric toothbrush.
+ timer - some of the models have timer which indicates how long have you been brushing your teeth. Normally after 2 minutes the toothbrush vibrates or gives you sound signal
+ much better results than manual toothbrushes
+ less pressure - with manual toothbrush it is much more likely to put higher pressure on your teeth and gums while attempting to brush your teeth as good as possible

Of course there're some cons as well which you should take into consideration:
- easy to break - while a manual toothbrush is unbreakable, this is not the case with the electric ones. Drop it on the bathroom floor and this could be the end of it..
- higher cost - that's obvious. While there're many models on the market, expect to pay from $30 to a couple of hundreds dollars, depending on the model and its features.
- charging - you can't use them unless they're charged. And the charging takes a lot of time. The best way to have an always functioning electric toothbrush is to leave it charging after you finish brushing your teeth.

Baking soda - does it really help for teeth whitening?

You probably have baking soda at your home and chances are you're using it for cooking, eliminating smells, even cleaning carpets and some stains on your clothes. But did you know it is also used for teeth whitening? My guess - yes, there're countless articles, social media posts and Youtube videos about its whitening effect on your teeth.

So why exactly people believe that the baking soda whitens your teeth. Well, baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is composed of a chemical compound that turns it into wonderful mild abrasive. That's why it can remove surface stains from your teeth and they look whiter after brushing them with soda.

You should know though that deeper, older stains cannot be removed with baking soda and you'll have to choose another teeth whitening product or see your dentist for consultation.
However, before you jump to brushing your teeth with baking soda, you need to take into account that it also has some side effects. If you use it for a long period of time, it can damage the enamel of your teeth. It doesn't contain fluoride that prevents cavities, so make sure you brush your teeth with regular toothpaste as well. And just forget about using it if you have braces that contain orthodontic glue - baking soda soften the glue and you can cause some serious problems and additional visits to your dentist.

Some of the benefits of using baking soda for teeth bleaching:

1. Healthier oral pH - the pH in our mouth determines what populations of bacteria flourish in our mouth. The lower the pH, the greater the risk of cavities. Using baking soda, with a pH of 8.3, it gently creates more healthier environment.
2. Less bad bug count - some researches show that using baking soda can help in lowering the count of bad bugs in our mouth.
3. Baking soda fights bad breath - we all want to have nice and fresh breath. While using a gum can quickly solve this issue, it's just temporary. Some people have noticed that apart from teeth whitening and polishing, baking soda can improve the breath as well.

Tips for using baking soda

Below you can find some ideas how to brush your teeth with baking soda. But it is very important to remember that you should not brush with baking soda more than twice per week because if you do, you can damage the enamel of your teeth.

Just baking soda  - wet the toothbrush and then dip it into the baking soda. Once all the bristles are covered with the powder, brush your teeth for two minutes. Rinse with water and make sure to brush with toothpaste after.

Baking soda with toothpaste - mix baking soda, toothpaste and water to create a paste. Brush your teeth with this paste for 2 minutes. Rinse your mouth with water.
Baking soda with strawberries - strawberries are know for their teeth whitening properties and combining them with baking soda is a good and tasty idea. Mash on fresh strawberry and mix it with baking soda. Use the paste to brush your teeth. Rinse with water.

And if you think that baking soda is not the correct way to whiten you teeth and that the possible side effects are bigger than the benefits, you can always try a toothpaste that contains baking soda. Some of the products you can try:

True of False? Find out some facts and myths about teeth whitening.

Lately teeth whitening has become a fashion trend. Mostly because of the TV commercials, billboards, celebrities with dazzling white smiles - you just want one too. The process however can take some time and you'll probably have to try a bunch of products and procedures before you achieve that precious smile. You''ve probably heard and read a lot of information and many myths about teeth whitening, most of which are not true at all. Here are some of the most popular myths about teeth whitening:

  1. It's painful and damages the enamel - most of the procedures are painless and relatively harmless, as long as they are correctly applied and with the right proportions of the whitening product.
  2. Teeth whiten exactly the same - each teeth reacts differently to the procedure - some immediately respond and become whiter, while others need more time. In general yellow teeth can be whiten more easily than the grey ones. Seals, dentures and crowns can be whiten just a little - if you have those you'll probably have to replace them with new ones in a whiter shade after you've done the whitening procedure.
  3. Professional teeth whitening is more effective than the one done at home - both procedures give similar results, the difference is mainly in the cost and the time. The professional procedure can be done in a day, but is more expensive and a little more uncomfortable . The whitening at home takes longer, but with the proper products and perseverance the results are visible within a few weeks.
  4. All products are the same - all teeth whitening products (pastes, gels, strips, mouthwashes) have different formula and their efficiency also varies. It's true that there're many products that promise whiter teeth after the first use but the reality is much more different and you'll have to use the product for at least a few weeks before you see any results. And of course, the price is also indicator - don't expect quick results from a product that costs just a few bucks.
  5. Home remedies work as well as profesional whitening - you've probably heard a lot about different home remedies for whiter teeth - baking soda, orange, peel, olive oil, etc. Some users have complete faith in them and post great videos on Youtube, pictures on Instagram, write articles. The reality is that there are no studies that can prove the effectiveness of these methods. But as long as these remedies don't hurt your teeth you can give them a try and find for yourself whether they work or not.
